Lotus root is a type of root vegetable popular in East Asia. Raw lotus root has a crunchy crispy texture similar to radish. Once cooked and softened, it takes on an earthy, mild sweet flavour that pairs well with root vegetables, tofu, and meat. Yutaka Lotus Root Slices are pre-cooked and easy to prepare. Just add to soups, stews, stir-fries and salads.
How to prepare:
Pre-cooked, just add to soups, stews and stir fries from frozen.
When adding to salads, blanch in boiling water for 3-4 minutes or microwave for 1-2 minutes.
Kinpira Renkon (Braised Lotus Root):
- Heat 1/2 tbsp sesame oil in a frying pan over medium heat. When it’s hot, add 200g Yutaka Lotus Root Slice and thinly sliced carrots. Stir fry until almost tender for roughly 2-3 minutes.
- Mix 12 tbsp sesame oil, 2 tsp soy sauce, 2 tsp mirin, and 1/2 tbsp water. Add to the pan and stir fry until water has evaporated.
- Sprinkle sesame seeds and chilli flakes and serve (optional).
