Pink Onigiri

Ingredients

  • 200g Yutaka Sushi Rice
  • 2 tbsp Yutaka Rice Vinegar
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1-2 drops red food colouring
  • 1 sheet Yutaka Nori, cut into strips
  • Yutaka Soy Sauce, for serving

Directions

  1. Rinse the sushi rice in cold water until the water runs clear. Cook the rice according to the packet instructions, then allow it to cool slightly.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Gently fold this mixture into the cooked rice.
  3. Add 1-2 drops of red food colouring to the rice and mix gently until evenly pink. Be careful not to over-mix to maintain the rice's texture.
  4. Wet your hands with cold water to prevent sticking. Take handful of pink rice and shape it into a compact triangle or ball.
  5. Place a strip of nori around the base of the onigiri for decoration and to help with handling.
  6. Repeat with the remaining rice and fillings.
  7. Serve immediately with Yutaka Soy Sauce on the side for dipping.
