Futomaki

Futomaki is a thick sushi roll, which is larger and heartier than your typical maki roll. it's packed with a variety of fresh ingredients like vegetables and fish - it's then wrapped in a sheet of nori and Japanese rice.

Ingredients

  • 2 sheets Yutaka Sushi Nori
  • 1 cup cooked Yutaka Sushi Rice, cooled
  • 1 tbsp Yutaka Rice Vinegar
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1 small can tuna in brine, drained
  • 2 tbsp Japanese Mayonnaise 
  • 1 tsp Yutaka Soy Sauce
  • 1/4 cucmber, julienned 
  • 1/2 avocado, sliced
  • 1 small carrot, julienned
  • Yutaka Sushi Ginger, to serve

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, mix the rice vinegar and sugar, then fold it into the cooked sushi rice. Set aside.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the drained tuna Japanese mayonnaise, and soy sauce until well mixed.
  3. Place a sheet of nori, shiny side down, on a bamboo sushi mat.
  4. Spread an even layer of sushi rice over the nori, leaving a 2cm border at the top edge.
  5. Arrange a line of the tuna mixture across the center of the rice.
  6. Add cucumber, avocado, and carrot alongside the tuna.
  7. Using the bamboo mat, carefully roll the nori over the filling, pressing gently yo form a tight roll. Slice into thick pieces using a sharp, wet knife for clean cuts.
